Halu Chilume, located in the heart of the Ujjani Hills forest, is a sacred natural aquifer known for its perennial freshwater spring and spiritual significance. It is home to the revered goddess Gangamma, a pilgrimage site visited by devotees seeking blessings for family well-being and agricultural prosperity.
The 3 km trail leading to the temple passes through dense forest rich in biodiversity, including rare plants, insects, and animal species.
Despite its spiritual and ecological importance, the area has recently been threatened by pollution caused by ritual waste and plastic left by visitors. The region’s unique mix of cultural heritage and natural beauty makes it a vital location for conservation efforts.
On 31st May 2025, Good Living Trust (GLT) led a transformative campaign to clean up the sacred aquifer and pilgrimage trail of Halu-Chilume in the Ujjani Hills, Karnataka. The initiative, titled the Sacred Flow Cleanup Campaign, combined spiritual reverence with ecological responsibility—reflecting GLT’s vision of honoring sacred natural spaces through hands-on, community-led conservation.
This initiative was supported by a dedicated team of 16 volunteers from Exalogic Consulting, who partnered with GLT to bring this powerful project to life.
The site holds both spiritual and ecological importance—home to the natural aquifer and surrounded by rare biodiversity. Unfortunately, the area has become heavily polluted due to increasing footfall and improper waste disposal by visitors and pilgrims.
Volunteers completed a challenging 3 km forest trek to reach the remote hilltop temple site.
Over 150 kilograms of plastic waste were collected and removed, including:
Volunteers interacted with fellow trekkers and devotees during the cleanup to encourage eco-conscious pilgrimage and responsible waste management.
This effort directly reduced the risk of long-term pollution in a fragile aquifer ecosystem and restored the sanctity of the spiritual space.
Good Living Trust’s mission is rooted in preserving the planet’s sacred and natural heritage. The Sacred Flow Cleanup Campaign is a living example of how spiritual responsibility and environmental sustainability go hand in hand.
Through this initiative, GLT reinforced several core principles:
This is not a one-off effort—it is part of GLT’s long-term environmental stewardship plan that includes sustainable site interventions, waste audits at sacred sites, community workshops, and corporate-volunteer collaborations.
Exalogic Consulting joined hands with GLT not just as volunteers but as purpose-driven allies. Their team’s discipline, humility, and enthusiasm were instrumental in completing the cleanup efficiently and respectfully.
This collaboration represents a successful model for how corporate participation in grassroots sustainability can lead to measurable impact on the ground.
Together, GLT and Exalogic have set a powerful precedent: “Proving that when organizations commit to real-world, hands-on action, change is not only possible, but also transformative.”
